About Us

La Barriere Crossings School is unique to the Seine River School Division, as the only Middle Years School, for students in Grades 5 to 8. With an English program for students in St. Norbert and adjoining areas, our school benefits greatly from a community of diverse backgrounds and cultures, which contribute to a dynamic learning environment and school community.

With a student enrollment of 171children, and a dedicated educational staff of eight classroom teachers, physical education and music teachers, resource and guidance staff, and sixteen educational assistants, we enjoy the benefits of a "small" school to ensure that every student both learns and succeeds as an individual as well as discovering and developing their role in the community. Further supporting this community are the school secretary, librarian and custodians.

The development of successful life-long learners is the focus of our school. The capacity to learn, to see other perspectives and to accept differences by recognizing their strengths, produce successful citizens and a powerful community. To this end, academics form the core of our school experience. All subjects are taught in adherence with the expectations of the curriculum for Manitoba Schools, with a focus upon literacy and numeracy as vital skills in today's world.

In addition to the classroom academics, emphasis in LBC is placed upon the development of successful citizens. The social and emotional development of our students is fostered through formal and informal programs and interactions in a broad range of groups, activities and programs. Essential to this development is the maintenance of an atmosphere of mutual respect between all individuals and an understanding of the importance of the equal inclusion of everyone in all aspects of community life. In this respect, the diversity of our population and the experience of our staff provide our school with an opportunity to excel. Anyone visiting our building leaves with the sense that, despite widely divergent beliefs, attitudes and backgrounds, we comprise a cohesive and accepting community in which each individual is valued.

Underlying each busy day in LBC is an understanding that learning is a "messy" job and that children must be willing to engage in that messiness in order to grow. Using empathy, respect and humour, we give our students an environment in which they feel secure enough to take the risks and face the errors that lead to real growth both academically and personally.

We are justly proud of our students, our alumni, and our staff and invite all parents and community members to visit LBC and experience first-hand the positive and dynamic atmosphere generated by our students and staff.

Our Mission

To provide an inclusive learning environment for our culturally diverse school community; while contributing to the development of all students in achieving their fullest potential.
